WEEKEND ADVENTURES

On Saturday we headed to a little airfield on the edge of Dorset to see my Dad take to the skies in a vintage Tigermoth aeroplane; the 50th birthday present the whole family gave him last November. When we arrived we weren't surprised to see him decked out in full Battle of Britain pilot attire, complete with uniform, flying jacket, gloves, hat and pipe. That's my Dad for you.

Many moons ago I took Ben to meet my Dad for the first time, at the same airfield. He was given a similar gift for his 40th birthday and as we made our way there I prepared Ben once again about the man he was about to meet. About how it was very likely he'd be dressed as a World War II serviceman, would be likely to speak to him in a plummy English accent and would most definitely be pretending to smoke a pipe. I'm not sure how seriously Ben took me, but he soon realised that I was not exaggerating.

At our wedding two years ago my Dad, in his Father of the Bride speech, recalled the meeting. No joke, at that first encounter, when we were just 17, my Dad asked Ben what his prospects were and his intentions for his daughter. It's crazy to think that it was nearly 11 years ago...

  2. My husband and I have been together for 10 years this week and I agree, it's hard to believe so many years have passed. Incidentally, I think we are around the same age (29 next Feb) and got married the same time too (we were April 2010). Just though you'd like to know! Gorgeous photographs as ever (we're Instagram buddies too, I'm onemorefulllengthrecord. Cleverly I have google and IG names that don't match?!) xx

    1. Hello Ruth! Yes, very similar ages...in 29 next may and we got married may 2010! It's crazy that ben and I have been together for 12 years next month (I waited a year before introducing him to my dad...thought I'd make sure he was a keeper first ;) !) such amazing times and so much has happened. It's so awesome that we found our loves so young, don't you think? I love that ben and I have shared so many experiences together already.
Nice to have an IG buddy on the blog too :) xx

  3. Ah lovely! I also met my husband when I was very young I was 17 (he was 20), it scares me how it feels like yesterday. When we fell in love and said one day we would get married, I remember him saying that he wanted to be a Dad when he was 30. I thought fine that's ages away and yet here I am now nearly 27 and him 30 expecting our first child can't wait (but not going to lie can I be 17 again!?!)

  4. That is a great photo of your Dad - much better to have a slightly eccentric father I think, my Dad is certainly 'a character' - his speech at my wedding has gone down in history as 'the best worst speech ever' (well among all my friends anyway).

  5. Oh I love this. :) Your dad seems like a lively and sweet man! That made me laugh when you said you warned Ben that your dad would be dressed head to toe in WWII servicemen gear and he had to see it to believe it ;)

And that photo of Josephine in the grass is adorable!
